Overview

BusinessCentralTesting is an automated regression testing platform built specifically for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. Test scripts are Page Scripting files (.yml) — either built and parameterized by us as part of a Coverage Pack, or recorded and uploaded by you. They run against your tenant with a single click, and results come back as step-level logs and video recordings.

How it works

Testing has three main steps:

1. Build coverage — We build and parameterize scripts for your core business processes after a one-hour discovery session each, or you upload your own Page Scripting recordings.

2. Run every wave — Scripts run against every Microsoft preview and release, and on demand after your own changes.

3. Get the report — Review step-by-step logs, watch video replays, and track results over time.

Coverage Pack delivery

The delivery clock starts once the prerequisites are met: a sandbox refreshed from production, representative master data, a named SME, test user credentials, and a rough Page Scripting recording of each process. Discovery is one hour per business process. After the build, you receive the coverage matrix, the baseline run report and a 60-minute handoff session. The scripts are delivered as .yml files in your account and are yours to keep.

Connecting your tenant

Navigate to your Dashboard and click “Add Company.” You’ll need your Business Central URL and valid credentials with access to the pages being tested. For a Coverage Pack, we do this with you during the handoff session.

BCT uses these credentials only during test execution. We never store your business data — only the test results and recordings.

Your first script

The fastest way to create a test is to record it directly in Business Central using the Page Scripting tool.

Step 1: Open Business Central and navigate to the page where the business process starts.

Step 2: Start the Page Scripting recorder from the toolbar.

Step 3: Perform the actions you want to test — navigate to pages, fill in fields, click buttons, post documents.

Step 4: Stop recording and export the script file.

Step 5: Upload the script to BCT and click “Run.” For a Coverage Pack, this rough recording is what you send us before the discovery session.

Running tests

You can run tests in two ways:

Run a single script — Click the “Run” button next to any script to execute it against its connected company.

Run all — Click “Run All” on a company card to execute every script associated with that company. This is the recommended approach after a BC update.

Using Page Scripting

Page Scripting is Microsoft’s built-in recorder in the Business Central web client. Recordings are YAML files that list every navigation, input and action. Scripts we build for you add parameters and validations on top of the recording so the same script can run across many rows of master data.

Uploading scripts

Unlimited scripts on every plan. Upload .yml files from the Scripts page and assign each to a company. We maintain the scripts we built; you maintain the ones you upload. Repair of a customer-authored script is available at $350 per script.

Viewing results

After a test run completes, you’ll see a summary showing which scripts passed and which failed. Click into any run to see the full step-by-step log with timing data.

Failed steps are highlighted in red with a description of what went wrong. Use the video replay to see exactly what happened in the browser.
